Good to know for hiking & biking

Important for every tour

The hiking and biking season in Kappl & See generally runs from mid-June until mid- to late October. Which paths, cable cars and bike services are available depends on the weather, snow and trail conditions. Before setting off, it is worth checking which facilities are open and taking a look at the webcams.

The summer cable cars make many tours easier to access, taking families, hikers and bikers comfortably to higher altitudes. Important for bikers: Mountain bikes and e-bikes can generally be transported on the cable cars. With the Silvretta Card Premium, one bike transport per cable car per day is included on all operating cable cars in the Paznaun & Samnaun region.

For hiking, sturdy hiking boots, weatherproof clothing, a backpack, water and protection from the sun and rain are essential. For biking, bring a helmet, suitable clothing, tools, a spare inner tube and, for e-bikes, a sufficiently charged battery. Anyone planning a longer tour should also pack food, a first-aid kit and navigation data.

Choose a tour that suits your fitness, ability and the weather conditions. Follow the rules for safe behaviour in the mountains, stay on marked trails and be considerate of other guests, grazing livestock and nature. If the weather changes, turn back in good time. The European emergency number is 112.

Bikers can make use of bike rental, bike guides and e-bike charging stations throughout the region. The summer bus can also carry e-bikes and mountain bikes, with space for a maximum of five bikes on the rear rack. Mountain lodges and restaurants provide welcome places to stop for refreshments along the way. Some also offer e-bike charging if you bring your own cable.

Dogs are welcome on many trails but must be kept on a lead. Rules on cable cars vary depending on the facility, although a muzzle and lead are generally required. Take particular care around grazing livestock and other guests.
